Jacques Legare, Belgian-American Photographer (c. 1938–1989)
The discovery of Jacques Legare's work was precipitated by my purchase of this camera (shown front and rear, with Legare's name engraved on the back) at an auction in Paterson, New Jersey. It's a Leica M4, with a 35mm lens. This kind of camera was popular with photojournalists in the time period Legare was active. The camera was in fair condition, since it had spent about 20 years in a trunk in less than ideal conditions, but some minimal servicing was all that was required to put it into working form again. Three books of negatives were found hidden under a wooden divider in the bottom of the trunk.
